A Saga of Elder Loneliness
Poonam is a fascinating portrayal of elderly loneliness, especially of those ignored, abandoned or left to live by themselves. Times have changed and as so have people, most families chose to turn nuclear. Irrespective of the reasons, the elderly, are the ones bearing the brunt. Gone are the days when they enjoyed the camaraderie of their children and grandchildren. Today, they hardly get to see either of them.
With a firm belief that our elders rightfully belong within our families, Poonam addresses the question of abandonment (if we may call it so), and their loneliness from a companionship perspective. We, the modern lot is able to understand our children and their need to mingle with the opposite sex, their spending time together or living together. So, why is it a taboo when our elderly yearn for companionship? Hypocrisy?
